Photos in the Rain

Being a photographer is a little like being a runner in training - no matter what (rain, heat, snow) you just need to get out and do it.
All week I had my heart set on taking pictures early Saturday morning. It is honestly my favorite time to take pictures. I woke to rain and was very disappointed. I did my normal weekend morning activities - coffee being the most important. Also, I double checked that I was ready for the hurricane. Check.
Time went by and the sheets of rain subsided to a light sprinkle and I decided to be brave and venture out with my cameras in hand (plastic bags in my pockets).
I entered Central Park with new eyes, the rain had made the colors pop. I was so excited. One thing you should know about me is that I take hundreds of pictures. I am not sure what it is but I see the world in a completely different way when I look through the viewfinder. Yes, I prefer to look through the viewfinder and not use the digital screen on my camera.

The rain started just moments after I entered but I did not turn back - I was brave and went forward determined to allow my heart to dance. I wrapped my cameras in plastic, put my baseball cap on and chose to embrace the warm rain. In minutes I was drenched and smiling. The rain brought the colors of everything to life, draped petals in water droplets and unexpectedly washed all of my cares away. I got lost for hours in the rain taking pictures. Soaking wet, I took refuge near Belvedere Castle and a stranger looked over my shoulder as I reviewed the hundreds of photos that were on my camera. Having an audience was a little weird but her compliments have resonated with me all weekend. Thank you to the nameless angel who helped to give me wings.

And, thank you Hurricane Irene, you made my weekend.
What did you do that was brave this weekend?

  1. Hi Lori, beautiful photos, I bet you had fun in the rain, it's a bit like being a child again no cares in the world, just focusing on what you're doing. Good luck with your jewellery designs, I look forward to seeing them x
