What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - WOYWW

I am linking up with Julia over at Stamping Ground for WOYWW - What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  It has been a few weeks since I played along.

This is what my desk looks like.

I have signed up to participate in The Sketchbook Project 2013

I received my sketchbook a few months ago and it has sat on my desk in the envelope that it was mailed in ever since.

This is what I've been afraid of...the blank page.

I manifested my own fears...what if I mess it up, what if it looks awful, what if... what if...what if...

Well, if you look back at the first picture on left side there are 2 containers of gesso, one white and one black. That is my answer to all my what if fears.

So what, I'll paint over it.  I have all of the fun tools to play with so I might as well just start by making the a few of the pages not blank.

By the way, if you look really close at the barcoded label on the left my name is printed on the back of my sketchbook. So fun!

I am so happy to say that I just started. I used dylusion spray inks, layered a few cardboard letters and made the page green.  I have 5 pages that are no longer blank. They aren't finished but they aren't blank.

My fear is less by just simply adding a single layer of color to a few pages I made it less scary.

Now to play with all those fun art supplies that I have and create an art journal that I am going to share with the world. A few doodles, a few photographs added in here and there, some of my messages from the universe sprinkled in, and before I know it my sketchbook will be full.

I'll continue to share my progress during the next couple of months.

Do me a favor today and choose one of the things that is scary for you today and just begin. Take one step forward to making it less scary. Those 'what ifs' that live in your head are really only in your head so begin today so that you let them go. xoxo

I promise that you'll feel better and be more joyful if you just begin.

Hop over to Stamping Ground today and visit a few more desks.

  7. I'm the same way! When I was a kid I always just loved looking at the blank page..... your project looks great so far. Good for you to make the leap and put something down on the pages!

Yesterday was my blog anniversary - candy will be announced soon. As part of the candy I'm offering up something made by me -- so come visit and cast your vote (if you've already been - thank you. I'm trying to visit everyone this week so haven't checked in on my comments lately).

  8. I have always wanted to start an art journal, but I am overwhelmed as to where to start and when I say that I mean I cannot even decide what type of journal to buy.

I would probably have a problem with the blank pages too. I like your idea of just starting. Plus, I like the idea of being able to just cover it up and start over. Now if only I could decide on what kind of journal to get. :-)

  9. oh Lori, i'm SO glad you're doing the Sketchbook challenge!! What's the WORST that can happen, really?! And doesn't it feel the greatest to just go ahead and begin? I remember seeing that blank book and thinking "holy crap, i have to fill ALL these pages?!?" But how wonderful it feels when you get into the groove and start looking at it as "just another sketchbook" rather than "THE sketchbook"... You're gonna do great, you're gonna be brave, and you're gonna love this. I'm with you all the way. xox

  10. Thanks for sharing your desk and thoughts today Lori. It's always so inspiring seeing a peek into another creatives work place. That's fabulous you're taking part in the sketchbook project. Good on you, and you will rock it girl! I haven't yet had the courage to participate in this yearly project yet, but I admire any creative heart that has the courage and energy to do so. Looking forward to seeing what you share in there. Just treat it as a place to be you (o: it will be sure to be a beautiful reflection of your gorgeous self then xxx
