Summertime Colors

I am linking up with 52 Photos Project today.

The theme this week is Summertime Colors and I always think of flowers. I used to spend a few weeks each summer as a child at my Grandparents house in the big city of Milwaukee, WI. I and my little brother, no parents, it was so much fun.

My Grandmother had some of the most beautiful roses and lush flower gardens in her back yard. In the morning she would tend to her garden while we would play in the yard.

My Mom now has beautiful flower gardens (which is where all of pictures included above were taken recently during a visit home) and I know in my heart that if I had a yard I would too. In the meantime, I visit the gardens of Central Park.

Visit 52 Photos Project to see the wonderful pictures of everyone else's interpretation of Summertime Colors.

Day 17 May Flower Challenge - Daffodils

Welcome to day 17 of the May Flower Challenge.

I'm fascinated with flowers. They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time. I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper... I also see them all over the NYC. Each day I will post flowers and I hope that you will join in. The only rules are that your blog post or flickr photo that you link must contain flowers. Click above on the May Flower Challenge Page to learn more.

A few weeks ago the Daffodils were at their prime in Central Park. I remember that I was specifically in Shakespeare Garden early in the morning before the sun was high in the sky. So, in my opinion, great light but not bright white light.

Daffodils to me are sunny, happy flowers.
They dance in the breeze on their long stems.

I love macro photography. I long to own a really great macro lens for my 35mm camera but until then I play using magnifying filters.

I remember that I had to hold the flower head so that it wouldn't move in the wind.

I love how the background is black in the next photo.
This is due to the light and the angle at which I held the flower.

I love how the same kind of flower can look so different due to changing the angle.

What have you created recently? What if you changed the angle?

Day 13 May Flower Challenge - Happy Mother's Day

Welcome to day 13 of the May Flower Challenge.

I'm fascinated with flowers. They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time. I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper... I also see them all over the NYC. Happy Mother's Day to all you Mom's out there.

Today, I am sharing a few Tulip pictures in honor of Mother's Day and my Mom.

My Mom's garden is busting with Tulips in Spring. She has hundreds of them.

I love how the tulip in the center below
has just a kiss of red on it.

I also love how this single red tulip
snuck into the purple tulip bucket.

It is good to be unique
and set yourself apart from the others once in a while.

So, on this Mother's Day I hope that you are pampering your Mom, phoning your Mom if you are like me and live far away or celebrating her memory. Mom's are special.

Happy Mother's Day!

Day 1: May Flower Challenge

Welcome to Day 1 of my May Flower Challenge.
Thank you for joining in, I'm so glad you are here.
I am a little flower obsessed, this isn't a secret.

I take photos of flowers ever week...live flowers or flowers that appear in the architecture of NYC. I also create paper flower bouquets our of paint chips and wire. I doodle flowers while in day job meetings. This month I am going to also get a little creative and try a few new ways of making them - you'll have visit to see more.

Today, I've created the yummy yellow sunflower doodle and some swirly lettering to share with you.  I really do believe that flowers are nature's way of smiling.

What flowers do you want to share today?

By the way, I'm also linking up with Louise Gale today for her Creative Color Challenge. Hop on over and check out her blog...May's color is pink just in case you wanted to play along with her too.

Sunday Color Snippets

I have been feeling a little under the weather lately. The BF aka Superman had it really bad and happily it hasn't hit me that hard but....it is still hitting me. This means that I have reached into my collection of farmer's market photos to create this weeks color snippet.
It also means that I decided to add the color of the sun to your Sunday hoping that it would brighten my mood, too.
