May Flower Challenge - Day 19 - Gift Bag...

I'm fascinated with flowers.
They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time.
I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper...I also see them all over NYC.
Each day during May I will post flowers and I hope that you will join in.
The only rule is that your blog post or flickr photo that you link much contain flowers.
Click above on the May Flower Challenge Page to learn more.

Superman and I were in Greenwich Village today.
This means that we were also at Anthropologie
(it is just too close in proximity to pass by).

What do you do with the shopping bags
that your favorite stores give you?

I re-purpose or upcycle them into gift bags.

I've made these scribble flowers forever.
I love their imperfections.
(I also twist wire into pendants in this shape.)

What do you do with your shopping bags?
Have you ever thought of reusing them?

I hope that you will play along.

On Monday's I typically do a Soul Whispers
I've linked one of my favorite so you can check it out.

I've been doodling, again.

Julie over at Artistically Afflicted recently posted
about her black and white mark making.

It has inspired me to post my recent flowers.

I don't always have the time to sketch
or doodle so I find that if I divide the page
up into smaller spaces I don't get overwhelmed
when I cannot finish a full page.  This way I
can complete a small section at a time.

Thanks for visiting.

WOYWW - A bit of creativity

It has been too long since I have felt like being creative. Sickness can take a lot out of me.

I'm so happy to be back and feeling much better - thanks for all of your well wishes during the past few weeks.

Today I'm linking up with Julia at Stamping Ground for WOYWW

This is what the work space of my desk looks like. I'm not sure about you, but when I am sick I often shop online. So, I've recently purchased embossing powder, gouache, a watermark stamp pad, some new paper (which isn't in the picture), some very fun buttons, ribbons, and a new ring.

The lovely box of ribbons and threads at the top is from The Gilded Bee. The buttons and French/English vocabulary cards are from the French Hen. And the ring (lower right) is from Alisa Burke.

I also sketch often when I am sick and this is my recent drawing.
It reads: when it is gray and cloudy...wear flowers.

Paint Party Friday - Creating a Little Love

My week has been filled, over the top filled, with travel, conferences, presentations, long days, very little sleep, and not enough art. (All because of the day job.) So last night, instead of watching tv in zombie mode, I decided to paint some love.

I cut out some hearts from watercolor paper, painted, and doodled.

I love the way they turned out.

I am linking up with Paint Party Friday today. Hop over and visit.

WOYWW & The Sketchbook Project

Well, I did it.

I finished.

Postmarking it today #sketchbookproject

My Sketchbook Project is in the mail, postmarked in time, and off to The Brooklyn Art Library.

I created a book which includes a combination of my photographs (mostly messages from the universe) and a few of my favorite doodles, stamping projects, or art journaling creations from 2012.

Here is a sneak peek of a few pages:

I signed up to be part of the digital library for The Sketchbook Project too.

This means that they will scan my sketchbook and post it online. When this occurs, I will post a link so that those of you who are unable to attend the 2013 tour and hold my book in your hands will be able to view and see what I've created.

I'm hooking up with Julia over at Stamping Ground and What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday even though I am too embarrassed to share my workdesk - it is a mess and piled high at the moment.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my corner of the world.

Happy Thanksgiving!

AEDM Day 22

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is Thanksgiving in the United States.

May your day be filled with gratitude for the things in your life that mean the most to you.

For me, it is often the little things that I am most thankful for and for that I am grateful.

Now, to put the turkey in, make some coffee, walk across Central Park to catch a glimpse of Kermit flying, then the dog show on tv later today, more than likely a nap, and hopefully an old movie later.

I hope your day is filled with joy and a little gratitude.

Flowers...

AEDM Day 21

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

Back in October when I visited my parents I stamped random okra flower stamps on white paper.

The okra I bought at the farmer's market in NYC and packed in my carry on, which by the way the TSA agents giggled at as they hand searched my bag to see what it was, produced only 5 flower petals when stamped. It must have been a different variety that the okra I had previously use (which you can see here).

I chose to doodle grass across the bottom.

I then added stems, leaves, dots, and depth to the flowers.

I also stamped some clusters. I then doodled them too.

I love the way these turned out.
I want to see a whole page of them and then I'm thinking fabric.

Happy day before Thanksgiving. For me, this means a short day at the day job and a weekend planned with naps, art, and snuggles with Superman. I am so looking forward to a little down time.

Progress and Shared Messages from the Universe

AEDM Day 19

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

I've been working on my watercolor circle piece.  I'm still not finished but in spirit of a promise made to myself at the beginning of AEDM - sharing throughout the month, every day, and works in progress count, no need for just finished work to be shared.

The goal is to have something in each circle. So, I still have a little work to do.

If you are a regular reader you may be familiar with my Monday shared messages from the universe...

It is my belief that messages from the universe speak to me and remind me of something that is inside of me. When I first see them, I often don't even know what is really being advertised. Instead, the message conjures emotions or thoughts relating to something that is going on within me; in my heart, in my mind, in my soul. I see them on billboards, in magazines, store windows, church plaques...everywhere.

I secretly call them soul whispers.

The messages are all around us

------------------------------------------------------------------

Last week was a busy week due to my day job. I traveled all 5 days. This is rare for me and honestly not enjoyable. I prefer to be home. The universe reminded me of this...while I was at 33,000 feet.

I paged through the airline magazine, you know the one you find in the seat back, and this was the first page I turned to...

Rediscover what matters.

All I could do is let go of a big sigh...open my files and prepare for my meeting.

The universe keeps sending me little messages about what I should be doing - art, creating, etc.
So, I keep balancing. A girl has to eat.

When my weeks are filled with day job craziness and little time for creating - - I guess it feels the need to remind.

So, today I encourage you, no matter how crazy your days are...to rediscover what matters, if even for a few minutes a day.

Thanks for visiting and remember to hop over to Leah's page and visit a few other creative soul's blogs as we celebrate Art Every Day Month.

Leaf Doodles

AEDM Day 18

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

Doodling with a black sharpie is a great way to relax.
While we watched a movie last night I doodled.

I'm still stuck on leaves...don't worry, it may change to snowflakes soon.

I also created a simple repeat line pattern. I've decided that I want to create the line pattern with watercolors.

I hope your Sunday is relaxing.

The Start of a Flower Doodle

AEDM Day 13

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

My Monday was filled with airports, delays, turbulence, and spreadsheets.

My goal was to draw and doodle in between my spreadsheet work. (I have a client meeting today for the day job.) Well, sometimes plans just don't work out well.

I had airport delays, spreadsheets to update, turbulence on one flight so bad that I couldn't do anything, and my other flight was so short that this is all I was able to get done.

Hopefully my flights home tonight will be smooth so I can do a little more.

Watercolors and Doodles...in the works

AEDM Day 10

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

I have been playing with watercolors. I drew 20 circles and chose 3 colors for inside the circles. I wanted to play with saturation of color - for me that means how not to make the depth of color look the same. I have a tendency to love bold color and thus I use my watercolors like ink - thick and dark. So, for me, it was a challenge.

Oh, and I chose to use colors that wouldn't normally be my first choice.

This is a work in progress. I have the watercolor all done but still need to finish the doodling.

I'll be honest, I found it challenging to not make each color be the same with the circles. See I love the dark rich colors and not the pastel ones but I do love the variation in this piece and I can't wait to finish adding more words and doodles.

Have fun creating and remember, challenge yourself to do something different. Oh, and I encourage you to play with your art supplies in new ways.

Artful Packaging and Inspired While Voting

AEDM Day 7

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

Last night, after waiting in a very long line to vote and working at my crazy day job, I came home wondering what I was going to do for AEDM. Well, remember that journal I created last week? If you missed it you can find it here.

I decided to wrap the journal and box it up for shipping. I had to add some beauty to the wrapping paper. I took brown paper and drew some white leaves. I also addressed a card and embellished the envelope.  The other envelope is being sent to another admirer who has been waiting patiently.

Artful packaging (the journal I made last week is in the brown paper) #art #aedm2012 #doodle

Here is another view of the back of the envelopes.

I love to send snailmail to people, especially when the person who is on the receiving end has no idea that it is being sent (i.e. the journal recipient).

My other creative adventure yesterday was inspired while voting.

If you follow me on Instagram you saw the photo below yesterday. (You also saw the photo of the line I stood in.) I voted yesterday and waited in line for over 2 hours. When I received my ballot they also gave me a legal sized file folder to help keep the ballot from being damaged. As I approached the last of the 3 lines, which was also the longest, I got upset. I was shocked that in a day in age when I can order food on my food, post pictures in seconds, and check in for flight using my phone that I still had to fill out a paper ballot and stand in line to scan it. Seriously, America, we need to make this easier! So, I chose to take the opportunity to draw while I waited.

Growing up in a small town in Wisconsin meant that voting was done in the community center, you usually could walk in and out in less than 5 minutes, and as a child you went with your parents. My drawing below is honestly of people who were standing in front of my yesterday but placed in the kind of voting booth that I remember from my childhood. Yes, it had a curtain.

While I wait in line to scan my ballot I draw #art #doodle #nyc

By the way, I kept the file folder. I'd like to think that I liberated it and saved from the landfill. It currently hangs on my day job wall.

By the way you can find me on Instagram as lorimoonstudio - hope to see you there.

Hop over to Leah's website and visit a few other creative soul's who are participating in AEDM.

Let Love Grow - AEDM & Shared Messages

AEDM Day 5

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

I'm also linking up with Andrea at DreAm**heArt**sMart**ArT - today's theme was heart.

While watching tv last night, I sat down with paper and my micron pens. I had a goal of making a tree and adding a few hearts to meet the theme challenge.  Well, one heart turned into many.

Due to Hurricane Sandy, it seems that all around me is chaos and frustration. I'm safe and have a home - for that I am grateful. So, I wanted to capture the love that I have for Superman and for our life together.

Let love grow... #aedm2012 #doodle #art #micron

Hop over to Leah's website and visit a few other creative soul's who are participating in AEDM.

And, don't forget to visit Andrea's site for all the hearts that were inspired via her challenge.

For those of you who follow my blog regularly, you know that Monday usually means Shared Messages from the Universe. Well, today is no different.

Live this #nyc

The above message was drawn on the sidewalk in my neighborhood. As I walked to yoga, I walked right past it like a typically New Yorker in a hurry to get somewhere. I had to turn around to capture the photo.

It is such a simple message. In the city that I live in with so many still cold, hungry, and without shelter this message touches my heart. Be thankful for where you are, what you have, and I encourage to give to those who are in need.

As always, thanks for visiting, commenting, and following along on my creative journey.

WOYWW - What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

I am linking up with Julia over at Stamping Ground for WOYWW - What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.  It has been a few weeks since I played along.

My desk is rather clean for once as you can see above.  I am having so much fun playing with watercolors, doodling and now adding black pen line art to my journal pages.  I can't wait to play with those pan pastels that you can see in the photo above.

Below is the same page but with some of the black line art added to the page. This still needs a lot of work.

Do me a favor and hop over to Stamping Ground and check out a few desks today to see what other people are working on.
