Day 19 May Flower Challenge - Letter Love

 Welcome to day 19 of the May Flower Challenge.

I'm fascinated with flowers. They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time. I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper... I also see them all over the NYC. I like to doodle. 

I like good coffee, 

sand between my toes, 

the smell of the earth after it rains, 

hearing a child giggle,

the sound of a cat purring...

Sorry, I got distracted.

I like to doodle.

I have recently fallen in love with pens and markers, again. 

So much so, that during the past few weeks I participated in Joanne Sharpe's Artful Alphabets e-course. Joanne's classes are affordable. 

Her videos are informative and I had a lot of fun. 

I learned 25 different alpha lettering techniques. If you are lettering on your paintings and want to learn how to make it fancier I would recommend Joanne's class.

I love these pink Hydrangea. I can't get over how pink they were.

By the way, I think I want to do the whole alphabet in the daisy lettering that I did above. 

Today Superman and I are venturing to my favorite annual street fair in NYC - Ye Olde Village Fair put on by the Bedford Barrow Commerce Block Association.

 Juried artists, live music, and beer. 

So, if you are in the city go to the West Village and enjoy the day.

We plan to meet up with friends so come join the fun!

1. Found flowers...seriously they just keep crossing my path.  I am having so much fun with my May Flower Challenge - posting a flower a day in May. Those of you who are participating, I hope that you to are having fun. You each are inspiring me with your flower photos, stamps, drawings, paintings, collages, paper flowers - - flower art!  By the way, it isn't too lane, join in some flower fun at any time and share your flowers.

2. During the past weekend, Superman and I attended a small artist fair in NYC.  I just had to have this.

3. The found flower bandwagon...a dear friend, Jazmyn, who lives in the NYC keeps seeing flowers. She is an avid reader of my blog and a huge supporter of my creative journey.

This lovely flower presented itself to her one day and she just had to snap this great photo, share on her facebook page and tag me.

It made my day.

4. A big thank you to Superman this week. He not only has made dinner for me most of the week but he also has been the cat wrangler.

With a new young cat in our house poor Tucker has had a workout lately and their play time has been rather rambunctious during the day while Superman works from home.

Little Java is half of Tucker's size but full of spunk.

Day 17 May Flower Challenge - Daffodils

I'm fascinated with flowers. They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time. I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper... I also see them all over the NYC. A few weeks ago the Daffodils were at their prime in Central Park. I remember that I was specifically in Shakespeare Garden early in the morning before the sun was high in the sky. So, in my opinion, great light but not bright white light.

Daffodils to me are sunny, happy flowers. 

They dance in the breeze on their long stems.

I love macro photography. I long to own a really great macro lens for my 35mm camera but until then I play using magnifying filters.

I remember that I had to hold the flower head so that it wouldn't move in the wind.

 I love how the background is black in the next photo. 

This is due to the light and the angle at which I held the flower. 

I love how the same kind of flower can look so different due to changing the angle.

Day 16 May Flower Challenge & WOYWW

Today I'm not only hosting the May Flower Challenge but I am also linking up with WOYWW. You might be wondering what that stands for... What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday. It is a weekly hop that Julia at Stamping Ground hosts. She has a large following but don't let that intimidate you - it just means that you'll get new visitors to your blog because someone is bound to hop by. 

Today I am brave enough to share my desk, after I moved the pile of mail that was covering most of it). Ahhh, the joys of small NYC apartment (multi-use surfaces).  Going clockwise: watercolors, beads, pens/markers, my magnifier glasses so I can see, exacto knife and paint cards, rubber for making stamps, washi tape, Blick sale flyer and a little plastic bag full of paper leaves cut for my flower power kindness wire flowers.

The flygirls from my Flying Lessons class trade ATC's every month. In the past I've only participated once (purely because I just couldn't balance working full time, doing them and everything else). But, this month the theme was April Showers Bring May Flowers - how cold I pass that up?!

I used watercolors and markers.

Day 15 May Flower Challenge - Bethesda Terrace

Welcome to day 15 of the May Flower Challenge.

On Mother's Day, Superman and I ventured across Central Park to an outdoor artists fair on Columbus Avenue.  On our walk back, we stopped by Bethesda Terrace which is located at 72nd in the heart of Central Park.

 The fountain (not easily seen below, sorry) is by Emma Stebbins who was the first woman to receive a commission for a public major work of art in NYC. 

The panels, railings, etc were designed by Jacob Wrey Mould and constructed started in 1859. You can read more about it here at the NYC Parks website.  

The sandstone carvings represent the four seasons.

I have walked past, sat for hours listening to music, watched people, ran up and down the stairs hundreds of times during the past 10+ years that I have lived in NYC. 

But, for the first time on Sunday, I noticed more of the flowers. I always knew they were there because I had seen them before but this time I really looked at them. And, I'm in love.
