snail mail.

This year I participated
 in Kat Eye Studio's
Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap.

When I received each postcard
it brought a smile to my face
often after a long day.

Above are the 3 postcards that I sent.
Graffiti found in NYC.

The cards that I received are below:

Top: Gail from OXOXO
Bottom: Mary (sorry but I don't have a blog address
 - if I find one I will add it later)

Top: Helen at A Flash of Inspiration
Bottom: Caroline at Nowordz Photography

Top: Catie at Catie An & Company
Bottom: Kat at Kat Eye Studio

Kat - thank you for all the work
that goes into making the swap happen.

To all that participated thank you.
Your images made me smile
and your messages touched my heart.

Feel free to hop around and see some of the other
art that was liberated.

May Flower Challenge - Day 10

I'm fascinated with flowers.
They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time.
I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper...I also see them all over NYC.
Each day during May I will post flowers and I hope that you will join in.
The only rule is that your blog post or flickr photo that you link much contain flowers.
Click above on the May Flower Challenge Page to learn more.

I love the architectural elements
that are throughout NYC.

As I carried groceries tonight, I passed
by the Apple Bank on the Upper West Side.
I've walked past this building
hundreds of times in the past 12 years.
I never noticed the doors
until tonight - when my hands were full.

I love the flower in the center
but I also see how each square
makes a flower.

Beautiful!

I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper...I also see them all over NYC.

Recently, while in Central Park,
I fell in love with the simple lines
of this flower.

The stems don't grow straight.
The blooms are beautiful.

It even like it from the back.

I hope that you, too,
will take the time
to see flowers from all angles.

White...

White #ssdecember #catsofinstagram

White...

I'm playing along with Shutter Sisters during the month of December on Instagram.
Each day has a new prompt and yesterday was white.

My cat Tucker is such a snuggle muffin.
What I love about this photo is that he looks so small and adorable. (and he really isn't...small at all)

By the way, you can find me on instagram as lorimoonstudio in case you want to follow along.

Crates - Union Square

AEDM Day 20

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.
Every Saturday morning Union Square in NYC turns into a farm fresh grocery store. Farmers descend upon the city to share in their bounty.

Recently, I went early to witness the unpacking and setting up. Really, I wanted to see the crates. I'm fascinated by boxes.

I can just imagine the harvest.

By the way, I love to take pictures. NYC is so inspiring. Often, I go out for hours and walk the city, no agenda or plan. I say this because during 3 or 4 hours I can take hundreds of photos. Half the fun is downloading the pictures and looking through them.

Just a reminder to support your local area farmer's market.

Leaves, Leaves, and More Leaves

AEDM Day 17

I'm linking up with Art Every Day Month throughout the month of November.

Creating art each day: doodling, painting, journal making, stamping, photographing, etc.

Recent walks in Central Park have produced some really great photos of leaves, color, and texture. I can get lost for hours playing in the park with my camera.

And, it reminds me that sometimes the little things that bring hours of joy. My camera, time, the beauty of nature. I must have touched hundreds of leaves that day. I took over 500 photos - most of which aren't very good, but I still am in awe of the beauty that I was able to capture.

I hope that you can pause today and enjoy the world around you.

Tidbit Tuesday

Blogtoberfest: Day 16

A few little tidbits about me...

I prefer to walk in the park than go to Times Square.

I wish I had walls and doors to divide my living space. (I live in a 320 sq. ft. studio apartment.)

I enjoy museums and prefer not to rush through them.

I can sit for hours (with a good cup of coffee) and people watch. I secretly make up stories about the people that walk past me.

I long to travel the world with my camera and Superman.

There is something that I love about the smell of Autumn.

Tell me a little bit about yourself in the comments.

Sunday Color Snippets

The flowers of the Fall always amaze me.

I think it is because I expect flowers in the Spring and in the Fall I expect pumpkins and squash so I am always pleasantly surprised.

My recent Union Square Farmer's Market walk presented the follow beauties.

I hope your day is filled with color.

Sometimes last year's flowers still have some beauty.

As I was sharing my recent photos with my Mom yesterday we went past the three below.

She wanted to know where I had seen them in her garden because they should have been cut down.

I explained that I loved the simple beauty.
The detail of the dried flowers.
The curled petals.
The color.

Coneflower or Echinacea

Where are you finding beauty?

I hope you are enjoying my flower a day in May posts.

Day 25 May Flower Challenge & A Little Bliss

Welcome to day 25 of the May Flower Challenge.

Also, today I'm linking up with Liv Lane.  Every Friday, Liv hosts the Little Bliss List link party...it is about listing the little things that have touched our hearts and made us feel joy, peace, warmth, love and/or a little bliss during the past week. So, I'm jumping on the bliss band wagon.

This week is about family bliss.

1. I'm thankful for the "Moon Taxi" that is always so prompt to meet me at the airport (even when my flight is almost 2 hours late on arrival). Dad's are the best!
2. Hugs from my niece, who even at 18 years old, still gets excited to see me and has to spend the night at my parents house with me. So, fun! Love her!

3. My Mom's garden. It is so beautiful and on my first morning here I couldn't resist taking pictures for a couple of hours. Today's post features shots of a Purple Sensation Allium.

4. No skyscrapers...on the drive from the airport I could see the sky; the smile of the moon, the stars, the silhouette of trees against the sky... I know most of you see this all the time but living in Manhattan - it just doesn't happen.

5. I'm so thankful, again this week, for Superman. He's back home in NYC taking care of the Creative Team, Tucker and Java, our cats while I am attending my nieces high school graduation. Love you, Superman!

Blue

I'm fascinated with blue lately.

I notice the sky more these days
which I believe draws me to blue more all around me.

I see blue in the Central Park gardens.

Is there a particular color that you are drawn to this week?

1. Found flowers...seriously they just keep crossing my path.  I am having so much fun with my May Flower Challenge - posting a flower a day in May. Those of you who are participating, I hope that you to are having fun. You each are inspiring me with your flower photos, stamps, drawings, paintings, collages, paper flowers - - flower art!  By the way, it isn't too lane, join in some flower fun at any time and share your flowers.

2. During the past weekend, Superman and I attended a small artist fair in NYC.  I just had to have this.

Designed and made by Jessie Driscoll of Made From Coins. This lovely little flower is made out of an antique silver dime. Visit her site to see and learn more.

3. The found flower bandwagon...a dear friend, Jazmyn, who lives in the NYC keeps seeing flowers. She is an avid reader of my blog and a huge supporter of my creative journey.

This lovely flower presented itself to her one day and she just had to snap this great photo, share on her facebook page and tag me.

It made my day.

4. A big thank you to Superman this week. He not only has made dinner for me most of the week but he also has been the cat wrangler.

With a new young cat in our house poor Tucker has had a workout lately and their play time has been rather rambunctious during the day while Superman works from home.

Little Java is half of Tucker's size but full of spunk.

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mom's out there.

Today, I am sharing a few Tulip pictures in honor of Mother's Day and my Mom.

My Mom's garden is busting with Tulips in Spring. She has hundreds of them.

I love how the tulip in the center below
has just a kiss of red on it.

I also love how this single red tulip
snuck into the purple tulip bucket.

It is good to be unique
and set yourself apart from the others once in a while.

So, on this Mother's Day I hope that you are pampering your Mom, phoning your Mom if you are like me and live far away or celebrating her memory. Mom's are special.

Happy Mother's Day!

Day 11 May Flower Challenge - Inspired by Chives

Welcome to day 11 of the May Flower Challenge.

I'm fascinated with flowers. They are all over my tiny apartment. I photograph them all the time. I draw, paint, doodle them, create them out of paper... I also see them all over the NYC. Each day I will post flowers and I hope that you will join in. The only rules are that your blog post or flickr photo that you link must contain flowers. Click above on the May Flower Challenge Page to learn more.

I was inspired by chives today.

The lush green and beautiful purple flower go so well together.  At the Farmer's Market in Union Square in NYC there are farmers that each week have fresh cut herbs. The aroma can wake you up on a cool Spring morning.  It also reminds me of the garden that I used to have and still sometimes miss.

Last night, while I watched television, I took my black micron pen and my colored pencils and created this.

I'll be honest, I'm always a little shy to draw.
My inner critic still speaks in the back of my head.

Growing up my brother was the kid that could draw and I was the one who played the piano, wrote poetry, etc.

Well, I am happy to say that I sent my inner critic to bed and I had a lot of fun creating this lovely chive flower.

I believe that I can now try to draw other flowers like chrysanthemums. Or, maybe I'll start with something a little simpler like a Forget-me-not.
